What effect does humidity have on military products?

2020-04-16

For military units, the most important feature of military products is that they must be of high quality and basically have no safety hazards. The moisture-proof protection of material devices is one of the important aspects to ensure that the product is free of hidden dangers.

At present, the army's ammunition depots are mainly ground depots. After the summer, the storage environment will change greatly. The high temperature and humidity environment is not conducive to the safe storage of ammunition. Will cause the following hazards:

1. The impact of moisture on metal products

Metal is the main body of the ammunition components, and the impact of humidity on them is mainly to promote their corrosion. The greater the humidity in the warehouse, the more serious the electrochemical rust. Corrosion of the ammunition will not only shorten the storage life, when the corrosion is heavy, the shell will be difficult to eject the shell during the shooting and affect the battle; the warhead will affect the shooting accuracy; the fuze parts will affect the normal operation of the fuze, resulting in unreliable functions, and even promote insurance Cause a serious accident.

2. The effect of humidity on gunpowder

When the humidity is too high, its launch will absorb moisture, and the moisture content of the gunpowder will increase. It will be difficult to ignite, the burning rate will decrease, and the combustion in the chamber will be incomplete. It is easy to cause delayed or close rounds during launch. At the same time, it will accelerate the hydrolysis and deterioration, greatly shortening the storage life. When the humidity is too low, the moisture in the gunpowder will be reduced due to evaporation, the burning rate of the gunpowder will increase, and the firing chamber pressure and initial velocity will increase, which affects shooting accuracy and is prone to produce long-range bombs. In addition to being mainly made of metal and gunpowder, ammunition also contains some wood, paper, cloth, plastic parts, protective coatings, and sealing oil, etc., which are affected by humidity and can also deteriorate, directly or indirectly changing the quality of the ammunition. Performance affects use and long-term storage.

3. The impact of humidity on "laboratory products"

Experimental test strips, pH measuring machines, samples, reagents, powder materials, temperature and humidity measuring instruments, electronic measuring instruments, metal materials... and other instruments should be protected against moisture and dust. Especially for some instruments that have been used for a long time (such as water quality inspection and measuring instruments, ion analyzers, electronic titrators, etc.), because the temperature after turning on can evaporate the humidity attached to the surface of the parts, and these infrequently operated instruments are wet Gas is easy to invade the internal parts of the instrument, causing mold, oxidation, corrosion, poor signal transmission and other malfunctions or damage. In addition, the adhesion of dust will also affect the heat dissipation of the instrument and equipment, and make it run at too high a temperature, which may cause a short circuit. Therefore, the instrument and equipment need to be stored in a suitable humidity, temperature, low dust environment, and stable And the place where the power supply is correct, so there is no problem even if it does not turn on. From this point of view, the dry environment in which the parts and instruments of the military research institute are located is an indispensable external condition.

The impact of humidity on military units is mainly manifested in the occurrence of mildew and deliquescence on non-metal products, while metal products will have corrosion such as rust. Among the military products, the use of MSD (moisture sensitive devices) is not rare. These materials and devices are of vital importance to the protection of product functions. It is basically a requirement of zero hidden danger. The storage of industrial moisture-proof cabinets for these devices is particularly important.
